The Leasehold. The reason this property is leasehold, as we understand, is due to the following...
Sometime in the 1880's the land on which the whole development was built upon was owned by
one family, with each of the brothers having a share of the land to work. One brother
was caught rustling sheep, convicted, sentenced and transported to the penal colonies of
Australia. He did so without signing over ownership of his portion of land before he left.
Subsequently, when the land was sold to the original developers some 120 years later
it was discovered that in legal terms the freehold title of this portion of land could not
be sold without consent from the owner (now deceased) and/ or any beneficiaries.
Attempts were made to find any beneficiaries but with no success. Consequently the portion of
land and those properties built on it were therefore registered with a leasehold title, of 999 years, with
an insurance policy put in place should any claim be made and proved.
